Aerial Views – Aerial Views, Generations, And Sacred Ground, Skin & Bones
Aerial Views: This work developed from the Site/Sight Icons, as I continued working on these small-scale multi-media collages with an aerial view perspective, giving a sense of not being of this world but viewing, nonetheless. The concept is one of watching the world as an interested observer and seeing altered perspectives and details at close range.
Generations These works center around the idea of generations, and several different creative streams emerged from this theme. One was the discovery that several levels of generations of civilization lived in the marking stones but were unable to decipher the markers and images made of the lives lived. The second stream was personal in the legacy of strong women in my family, and the third stream was looking at the bundling of organic materials to signify different ethnic tribes and their generations and customs.
Sacred Ground, Skin & Bones, Sacred Ground is a space of quiet solitude and mystery where something “Other” speaks and the inner mind and heart listen. The thematic concern was experiential as man has often been drawn to Sacred places of transformed energy, and the ancients believed in altered physical environments to try and trigger the conscious and unconscious mind to venture into a new experience, a new way of being.
